April

What do most people think of when they think of April? Probably taxes. If you're lucky, you'll be getting a refund, in which case you've probably filed already. But even when you get a refund, it's still unpleasant to fill out the tax forms. After all, it's your money that you're merely trying to get back.
Some major events occurred in April. Blues great McKinley Morganfield, otherwise known as Muddy Waters, was born and died in April (April 4, 1913 - April 30, 1983). The Grateful Dead's Europe '72 tour (one of my favorite Grateful Dead albums) began on April 7 (yes, in 1972). Lowel George of the band Little Feat and also Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention, was born on April 13, 1945. The American Revolution began on April 18 -19 with Paul Revere's ride in 1775. Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865. The Titanic sunk on April 14 - 15, 1912. Martin Luther King was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
Passover, which began last night at sundown, commemorates the Exodus and freedom of the Israelites from ancient Egypt. As described in the Book of Exodus, Passover marks the "birth" of the Children of Israel. They had been slaves of the Egyptian Pharaoh. God instructed Moses to tell Pharaoh, "Let my people go so that they may serve Me," but Pharoh refused. After inflicting several plagues on the Egyptians, the tenth plague, as described in the Torah, consisted of God passing through Egypt to kill all firstborn, but passing over (hence "Passover") houses which have the sign of lambs' blood on the door post. Pharaoh finally relented and freed the Jews.
April is also National Humor Month. I don't have a joke for that, but maybe there should be a joke thread in one of the forums. Next week is National Guitar Week. The third week in April is National Adult Films Week. Seriously.
And this Sunday is Easter. I don't know much about the holiday, but from what I remember about being a kid on Easter, it was a fun, happy day. Passover is really a holiday for the kids, also.
